Finding a New Lease on Life Print E-mail

You were made for significance!

Your life was meant to bring you extreme fulfillment and joy by being in a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Sadly though, many people live their entire lives never experiencing a meaningful relationship with God.

God WANTS to have a relationship with us. He's already initiated the process; we just have to do our part, which is not complicated. As a matter of fact, it's as simple as taking four easy steps:

Step #1

Why God Needs to Offer Us A New Lease on Life

Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's ideal. Romans 3:23

The truth is we've all blown it as some point in our lives. The Bible calls this sin, and no one is exempt. Unfortunately, sin severs our relatioship with God. Because God created us, He had a fulfilling life laid out for us before we were even born. But when our relationship with Him is disrupted (because of sin), our life often becomes frustrating, discouraging and lacking fulfillment or direction.

The price tag for sin is death, but the free gift from God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, His Son. Romans 6:23

The result of our sin is death, spiritually and eventually, physically. Most people try to repair their relationship with God by being a "good person" and doing "good things." But no matter what we do, we can't be a good enough person or do enough "good" things to repair the damage. So God offers us a New Lease on Life through a free gift...

Step #2

Understanding God's Offer for A New Lease on Life

We're in a bind!

  • Our relationship with God has been destroyed by our sin
  • There's nothing we can do to fix it ourselves

So God, because of His great love for us, took the initiative.

God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not die (eternally), but have everlasting life! John 3:16

Because God knew that we could not repair the damage ourselves, He offered us a second chance, a New Lease on Life. That offer was made through His Son, Jesus Christ. Someone needed to die for our sin; so, Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life for over 30 years, and offered up His own life in our place. He paid our penalty...and now he offers us New Life.

Jesus said, "My purpose is to give you life, life as it was meant to be." John 10:10

God loves us! And since the moment we first sinned, it's always been His desire for our relationship to be restored. He offers us, through His Son, Jesus Christ...a New Lease on Life.

Step #3

Admitting Our Need for a New Lease on Life

Let's face it. It's not always fun to accept responsibility for what we have done in the past. But that process is made much easier when we realize God's incredible, unconditional love for us.

When we realize that He could have broken off all possibility of ever having a relationship with Him...

and yet He didn't...

When we realize that He could have forced us to pay for the penalty of sin ourselves...

and yet He didn't...

Admitting our past sin becomes much easier.

Look at what God promises to do if we admit our need by confessing the sins we've committed in the past:

If we confess our sin, God is faithful and will forgive our sin, and cleanse us from all wrong doing. 1 John 1:9

God will completely forgive us! He will wipe the slate clean. Our relationship can start fresh, like nothing ever happened. Admitting our need is worth it because it opens the door for us to have a New Lease on Life. So, what are you waiting for...

Step #4

Receive God's Gift of A New Lease on Life

So, we don't have to be a "good enough person"

Or do enough "good things"

To start our New Lease on Life...

All we have to do is admit that we've blown it in the past

And receive God's gift of a new life.

To as many as receive Him, (and the New Lease on Life He offers) He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn...and this rebirth comes from God. John 1:12-13 (Parentheses added)

How do we do that?

By praying a simple prayer like this:

Dear God, I know that I've sinned, and I now realize that my sin has put a separation in our relationship that, by myself, I can do nothing about. So God, I ask you to forgive me of my sin. I accept what Jesus Christ did for me by dying on the cross in my place. I ask You to come into my life, to be in charge of my life, and to make me the person you intended me to be. I accept Your offer of a New Lease on Life. Thank you, Lord, for making a way for me to have a relationship with You again. In Jesus' name, Amen.
